Web Accessibility

An essential guide for librarians to support them in applying web accessibility criteria to their online research guides.

Captions & Transcripts

Video and Audio Best Practices:

  • Provide synchronized captions and transcripts of the video content. Transcripts enable a user to access a video's spoken content, which differs from captions that only display small pieces of the audio content at a time.
  • Don't set video or audio to autoplay. Or provide an easy way to turn it off.
  • While movement may add visual interest, it will cause nausea and vertigo for people with vestibular disorders.
  • Videos and audio files may be paused, stopped, or muted.
  • For audio-only content, such as a podcast, provide a transcript.
  • Visual presentations with no audio require text transcripts to translate all the visual elements.

This video meets all the accessibility criteria.
