For this service, Distance Learners or ESD are defined as those taking classes or employed through Florida Tech and residing outside of Brevard County, Florida.
Many articles are available through our electronic databases; however, articles not available electronically may be available to you via Document Delivery. Please request material via ILLiad, just as you would for an interlibrary loan request. You will be notified by e-mail when your article is available electronically on ILLiad.
Many full-text electronic books (e-books) are available to you online via the library's catalog. In order to check out physical books from Evans Library at Florida Tech, you will first need to acquire a campus ID card (Panther Card). The card is made available at no charge to distance learners.
Florida Tech uses the Panther Card as your official photo identification. This card functions simultaneously as your Campus ID Card and Library Card. In order to check out library books, all students, faculty, and staff must first acquire a Panther Card. The 14-digit number below the barcode on the back of the card is your library card number.
If you have any questions regarding the process of acquiring a Panther Card, please contact Campus Services at 321-674-8076 or by accessing the link below.
Once you have acquired a card, it is necessary to activate it with Patron Access Services. Please call the Library Service Desk at 321-674-8086 for activation and further details regarding your library account. Once you have the Panther Card, you will use ILLiad to request the book from our library.
Items sent to you will be checked out for a period of 30 days, to allow for transit time both ways.
Articles are delivered electronically free of charge. If you need a book from our physical collection, the Evans Library will pay to ship it to you within the United States. However, you are responsible for paying return shipping charges. Please ship using a secure method in which the package may be tracked, such as UPS, FedEx, or USPS. You will be responsible for any charges incurred due to loss, damage, or late returns.
You may submit an interlibrary loan request via ILLiad for articles that are not available in the library's print or electronic collections. At this time, we are not able to supply books from other libraries to ESD or Distance Learners. Please utilize your nearest public library for this purpose.
Please contact the Resource Sharing Specialist, Victoria Smith, at firstname.lastname@example.org or 321-674-7539 with additional inquiries.
When registering in ILLiad, please select the appropriate Distance Learning status in order to be eligible for Document Delivery of material held at Evans Library (books and print articles). Please take the time to read the Info for Distance Learner to understand how interlibrary loan and document delivery can benefit you.
