How do I know if I am a Distance Learner or affiliated with Extended Studies/Off-Site Locations?

For this service, Distance Learners or Extended Studies are defined as those taking classes or employed through Florida Tech and residing outside of Brevard County, Florida.

How can I acquire articles only available in print journals at Evans Library?

Articles not available electronically but available in print journals in the library are made available to you via Document Delivery. Please request these articles via our interlibrary loan service. You will be notified by e-mail when your scanned article is available in your interlibrary loan account.

Can I check out books from Evans Library?

Many full-text electronic books (e-books) are available to you online via the library's catalog. In order to check out physical books from Evans Library at Florida Tech, you will first need to acquire a campus ID card (Panther Card). The card is made available at no charge to distance learners.

Florida Tech uses the Panther Card as your official photo identification. This card functions simultaneously as your Campus ID Card and Library Card. In order to check out library books, all students, faculty, and staff must first acquire a Panther Card. Your "900 number" is your library card number. If you are unable to obtain a card at the Florida Tech main campus, please fill out the online application here. You will need your TRACKS username and password to access the Card Registration site.

How long can I check out books from the Evans Library's collections?

Items sent to you will be checked out for a period of 30 days, to allow for transit time both ways.

Do I have to pay for shipping?

Articles are delivered electronically free of charge. If you need a book from our physical collection, the Evans Library will pay to ship it to you within the United States. However, you are responsible for paying return shipping charges. Please ship using a secure method in which the package may be tracked, such as UPS, FedEx, or USPS. You will be responsible for any charges incurred due to loss, damage, or late returns.

What if I need books or articles which are not available from Evans Library?

You may submit an interlibrary loan request for articles that are not available in the library's print or electronic collections. At this time, we are not able to supply books, DVDs or other multimedia materials from other libraries to Distance Learners or Extended Studies. Please utilize your nearest public library for this purpose.
