Introduction to Data Visualization

This guide will introduce the basic concepts, tools, and methods for visualizing different types of data. Users should note that data visualization is a diverse practice with the potential to become deeply complex. This guide is meant to be a learning resource for anyone who is new to the subject of data visualization, or who needs a quick reference guide to the fundamental concepts within this branch of data science.

Here we see a famous example from the Nineteenth Century by Charles Joseph Minard. A description of the visualization follows:

"Charles Minard's map of Napoleon's disastrous Russian campaign of 1812. The graphic is notable for its representation in two dimensions of six types of data: the number of Napoleon's troops; distance; temperature; the latitude and longitude; direction of travel; and location relative to specific dates"
