Subject Guide Template (new)

Use this Template Guide as a model for creating subject Research Guides in your liaison area.

A note on how to use this template:

This Subject Guide Template is a model to standardize FL Tech Subject Research Guides.

Align your subject Research Guides to the format presented in this template Guide, retaining the order of pages and content. All page and box names must stay as-is unless indicated

If you are making a new subject Research Guide, create a new Guide and use this template as a model -- Don't make a copy of this Template Guide or map boxes or assets from this Template Guide to your own subject Guide. Check the Reusable Content LibGuide for boxes and assets from this Template Guide that can be mapped to your own subject Research Guides: https://libguides.lib.fit.edu/c.php?g=427519&p=8389596

Welcome to the [Subject] Research Guide

Add description of Guide's purpose here.

Top Resources

Highlight the best resources for your subject here. Try to include a variety of content types - maybe databases, ebooks, web links, etc.

Remember, you can mix rich text entry and other asset types in the same box!

Related or Helpful Guides

Add a "Guide List" here.

The Guides you choose for this list will depend on the subject, but some possibilities are:

  • relevant Topic Guides like Academic Integrity, Citation Managers, Grammarly, GradTrack, Data info Guides, Video/Tutorial Guides, etc.
  • if your subject is interdisciplinary, include Subject Guides for other relevant subjects

Tips for Librarians [Do Not Include This Box In Subject Guide]

Here are some tips and best practices to be utilized across all Evans Library Research Guides:

  • Tips on links:
    • Always set target links to open in new window (especially mapped pages)
    • Add any new links as an asset
    • Only embed a link in rich text when necessary; try instead to add the link as an asset then "Add" it to the box
  • Fonts:
    • Always let font type and size go to default
  • Assets:
    • When adding content to Guides, always use assets and A-Z Databases! (The point of the asset collection is save time by having all our resources in one place)
    • Avoid copying assets unless the occasion requires it
    • Periodically review assets you’ve created and delete duplicate assets
    • If deleting an asset from a Guide that’s outdated, no longer needed, or can’t be updated, don’t forget to delete that asset from the master asset collection list also
  • Images:
    • Use images sparingly
    • Only use CC licensed images
    • Always add to and use the image manager (avoid adding a single image to a single Guide)
    • Always provide meaningful descriptions in the alt-text box
    • If your image is an infographic or something containing text, provide a transcript and description of the text from the image as a separate file
    • to size image, use a percentage value in either the width or height box so LibGuides will automatically size the image according to the user’s device screen
