What is a Reference Source?

A reference source is a print or electronic resource designed to be consulted for specific facts rather than to be read as a whole. Reference sources provide valuable background information.  Examples of reference sources are: almanacs, biographies, dictionaries, thesauri, directories, encyclopedias, guides, handbooks, manuals, yearbooks, and annuals. Reference materials are available in print, electronically, and on the Internet.
