COURSE DESCRIPTION:  In this course, we will use a literature based approach to explore the biology of aging with a focus on molecular mechanisms and model systems.  We will attempt to answer some fundamental questions including: What is aging? What molecular changes accompany aging?  Why do organisms age? What if anything can be done to prevent the effects of aging?  The formal will include lectures on selected topics, small group workshops on research proposals and student-led paper discussions.   

In your course research for BIO 5573, your goal is to discover primary, peer-reviewed literature on your chosen topic. You can read more about peer-reviewed journals and why they are important in the Journals tab.
